1. What this site is

VetPricer is a free price comparison site for UK veterinary practices. It reads the price lists that practices publish on their own websites, puts them into one standard format, and shows them side by side. It is a publisher and a directory. It is not a vet, not a broker, not an agent for any practice, and it does not book appointments, take payments or sell treatment.

There is no account needed to read the site and no charge for using it. Nothing on this page creates a contract for us to supply you with anything.

2. Prices: what they are, and what they are not

Every price shown is what a named practice published on its own website on the date shown next to it. That is all it is. In particular:

• A price is not a quote and not an offer. Only the practice can quote you. What you actually pay depends on your animal, its weight, its condition, what the vet finds, and what the practice decides to charge on the day.
• Prices change and pages move. We re-read practices regularly, but a practice can change its list at any moment, and between our reading and your visit the figure can be wrong.
• Reading thousands of differently built web pages produces mistakes. We say so plainly on how we collect prices, and we correct errors when they are reported. We do not claim the data is complete or error free.
• A missing price is not a statement about the practice. "No price page found" means we did not find one when we looked. It is a fact about our reading, not a finding that anyone has broken any rule.
• Typical prices are medians of the practices that published that line, not averages of the whole market, and they are only shown once enough practices publish the line to make the figure mean something.

So: check the price with the practice before you rely on it. If you spot something wrong, tell us and we will re-read the source.

3. Nothing here is veterinary advice

This site compares costs. It does not tell you what your animal needs.

Nothing on this site is veterinary advice, a diagnosis, or a recommendation for or against any treatment, medicine, procedure or practice. Listing the price of something is not a suggestion that your animal should have it, and a lower price is not a reason to choose one practice over another. Only a vet who can examine your animal can advise you, and decisions about treatment or medication should be made with them and nobody else.

Never delay getting veterinary help because of anything you read here. If your animal is unwell, ring a vet. If it is an emergency, ring your own practice, which has to arrange out-of-hours cover, or use the out-of-hours list. The pages about medicines exist so you can see what a prescription costs and where you can legally have it dispensed. They are not a pharmacy, we sell nothing, and prescription-only medicines still need a prescription from your own vet.

4. Nothing here is financial, insurance or legal advice

Where the site mentions pet insurance, care plans, payment plans or charitable help, it is describing what exists and what it costs. It is not advice about which product suits you, and we are not regulated to give it. Care plans and insurance policies are worth reading in full before you sign: what looks cheaper per month is not always cheaper over a year.

Our summaries of the CMA's vet price rules, on the rules page and elsewhere, are a plain-English description written for pet owners. They are not legal advice and not an authoritative statement of the Order. The Order itself is the authority, and we link to it.

5. How practices are listed and ordered

Every veterinary practice we can find that treats pets is listed, whether or not it has published prices, and whether or not it has anything to do with us. A practice cannot buy its way onto the site, buy a better position, or buy its way off it.

Tables are ordered by price, lowest first, unless you sort them yourself by clicking a heading. Practices with no published price for that line sort to the bottom, because there is no figure to compare. Nothing else influences the order: no payment, no commercial relationship, and no practice's preference. Verifying a listing is free and changes nothing except that a verified practice gets a mark on its page and its corrections looked at first.

Google star ratings, where shown, are Google's and are labelled as Google's. Reviews written on this site are shown separately under published rules. We do not rate or score practices ourselves.

6. Reviews and anything else you post

If you write a review, ask a question or send a correction, you are responsible for what you write, and you confirm that it is your own honest experience of a real visit. The review rules are part of these terms.

Do not post anything untrue, anything about a visit that did not happen, anything naming individual members of staff, anything about whether clinical treatment was right or wrong, anything abusive or discriminatory, anything that identifies a person, or anything you do not have the right to publish. Writing fake reviews, or paying anyone to write them, is against these terms and is also unlawful.

You keep ownership of what you write. By posting it you give us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to publish, store, copy, edit for length and clarity, and display it on this site and in material about this site, for as long as we keep it. A person reads every review before it appears, nothing publishes automatically, and we can decline or remove anything that breaks these rules. We will not remove a review simply because a practice dislikes it, and we never offer to. If you want your own review taken down, ask us.

7. What you may and may not do with the site

Read it, print it, quote it, and link to it freely. Journalists and researchers are welcome: the press page has the index as a CSV and a contact, and quoting figures with attribution and a link is encouraged.

Please do not: crawl or scrape the site beyond normal reading or beyond what our robots.txt allows; copy the database or a substantial part of it to build a competing directory; hammer the site with automated requests; try to break, probe or get around any security or access control; misrepresent yourself as us; or use the site to send anyone unsolicited marketing. We put real work into assembling this data and we assert the database right in the compilation.

8. Where the data comes from, and who owns what

The prices, names, addresses and contact details are business information published by the practices themselves, or taken from open data. Practices now have to publish a standard price list under the CMA's Order, which is what makes this comparison possible. Practice names, logos and trade marks belong to their owners and are used only to identify the practice being described.

The site contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0, data from OpenStreetMap contributors under the Open Database Licence, and place and population figures from the Office for National Statistics. Each page that uses them says so. The way the data is selected, standardised, arranged and presented, and the writing on the site, belong to us.

If you believe something on this site infringes your rights, is wrong about you or your business, or should not be here, use the corrections and complaints procedure. It says what we need from you and how quickly we respond.

9. Links to other sites, and how we are paid

We link to practices' own websites and to other organisations. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, their accuracy or what they do with your data. A link is not an endorsement.

The site is paid for by advertising and, on pages that discuss insurance or buying medicines online, by links to providers that pay us a commission if you buy. Those arrangements never affect which practices appear, the order they appear in, or any figure shown, and we say where they apply. How it is paid for is set out in full.

10. If something goes wrong

The site is free and is provided as it is. We work hard on accuracy and we correct mistakes, but we do not promise that the site will be available without interruption, that every figure is current, or that it is free of error.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss you suffer because a price here was wrong, out of date or missing, because you relied on anything on the site, because the site was unavailable, or because of anything on a site we link to. That includes lost money, lost time, wasted journeys and any indirect or consequential loss.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded. If you are a consumer, you keep all your legal rights, and nothing here takes them away.

11. Accessibility

The site is built to work without JavaScript, to be usable from a keyboard, to carry text alternatives for images and labels on form fields, and to reflow to a phone screen. We aim at WCAG 2.2 level AA and we have not had it independently audited, so there will be gaps. If something on the site is unusable for you, tell us and describe what happened. We will fix it or find you another way to get the information.

12. Changes, and the law that applies

These terms can change. The date at the top says when they were last reviewed, and using the site after a change means accepting it. We can change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site.

These terms and any dispute about them are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK you can bring proceedings in your own courts.
